College Transfer

Postby cvanputten » Fri Jan 29, 2010 12:46 am

I transferred within the past month from Lewis & Clark College, which ended 16 December 2009, and started classes at Tacoma Community College 04 January 2010. I know that my Stafford loan will continue because I'm enrolled full time, but I'm wondering how I indicate on my loan record that I am in fact continuing my education at a new college. Be that, how do I update my loan status to TCC instead of L&C?

You need to send your lender an in school deferment form and show them proof of enrollment. The in school deferment form can be found here: http://www.studentloanconsolidator.com/forms/

I suppose that my main query was how I could get in touch with a Stafford Loan representative to confirm that the only thing I need to send is proof of continuation of enrollment, or if they would like any addition forms, or if they have their own student deferment form I need to use. I checked their website but couldn't seem to find answers to any of the questions that I pose.

If you are looking to get in touch with your lender, you would need to check one of the paper statements that are sent to you in the mail for a customer service phone number. Although all Stafford Loans originate from the Federal Government, some are actually handled by other agencies, such as Discover Student Loans.

Once you figure out who your loan handler is, it's as simple as googling their phone number and giving them a call during normal business hours.
