delaying parent plus while in school

This delaying of PPL while student is in school would be great since we are paying on another child's four years right now. Does the gov ask you at time of loan or do you have to fill out more forms? I looked at web site and faq and all they do is mention that the option is available but no real specifics on the program.

Hi there,
You can definitely defer PLUS loan payments: Parents now have the choice of making payments while the student is in school or deferring payments until the student graduates. If you choose to pay after graduation, interest will accrue from the time of full disbursement. You can choose to pay the interest monthly, or you can defer both interest and principle until the student graduates. If you choose not to pay the interest monthly, it is capitalized no more than four times per year (http://www.parentplusloan.com/plus-loan ... s-loan.php). You can always check with your lender to see if any additional information would be required to do this.

Hello,
The PLUS deferment you are asking about is a new deferment option that became available last year, and is for PLUS loans first disbursed on or after July 1, 2008.

This option is not part of the loan application process. You would complete and submit a deferment form to the holder/servicer (whoever you will be paying back) of your loan once the loan is disbursed, or at anytime after disbursement.

You can contact the holder of your loan to obtain the deferment form, or they may have it available on their website. The form is a standard form and is called the “Parent PLUS Borrower Deferment Request”. If it is a Direct PLUS Loan that you have, I did not see the deferment form on the Direct Loan website.
