Foreign/Non-US error when registering

Postby whatnowwhatnow1 » Tue Mar 26, 2013 2:36 am

Hi, this has been posted a couple of times as far back as a few years ago but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. At http://www.staffordloan.com/apply/ when you select Foreign/Non-US under "school state", the corresponding list that shows up under "school name" is for Online Only schools. Looks like the lists have gotten mixed up somehow. I've completed my FAFSA and am wondering how to proceed to the Stafford application process; is this initial registration just to request information (and not the beginning of the actual application process) and if so, can I just put in whatever school? Will that info transfer to my application?

Thanks.

Hello,

The link you post is for information only, so you can select any school for that purpose. The actual Stafford loan application is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which you will need to complete at FAFSA.ed.gov

Sorry, I don't understand how the FAFSA (which I've already completed) is the "actual Stafford loan application" ? Upon completing it, FAFSA sent me an e-mail with this:

Based on the eligibility criteria you may be eligible for the following:

Direct Stafford Loan Estimate - $20,500.00

.. but I don't know where to access the actual application for the Stafford Loan, since the thing on their website is just for information.

Thanks.

The FAFSA is the form that determines your eligibility for aid. Once this is complete, students should contact their schools to request the amount that they have been determined eligible for.

Once the FAFSA is submitted, the application/request process is completed through the school.
