Loan Options for Less than half time grad students?

Postby csaunders » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:00 am

Hi - new to this forum and in general, I am new to the whole concept of student loans having been educated in Ireland some years ago. {The EU payed for my education}

Anyway, I need some help. I plan on going back to do some graduate courses this fall at New York University and can only commit myself to one course (3 credits) per semester cause of family commitments. From what I can find online, because I am less than part time, no federal loan options are available to me - is this true or is there a fed loan that can help me out?

If I can't get a federal loan, can people make recommendations for private loan companies? So far, I have found that companies who offer these loans give very little information online so that one can make a direct comparison. Hiding some very important terms and conditions really puts me off. in any event, anybody have some recomendations??

Some background info
- very good credit >800 FICA
- loan amount ~ $20,000
- not US citizen but permanent resident / green card holder
- looking to graduate in fall 2013

This is true. If you are enrolled in school less than half time you will not be eligible for federal financial aid. However, there are private loan options available. Check out the Private Student Loan Comparison Tool on PrivateStudentLoans.com to see what some of your options are!
