I have a private loan that is currently at 10.25% interest with the possibility of going up at any point or down. I would like to consolidate to try and refinance this loan but is it possible to "consolidate" loans to refinance when you only have one private loan?

I have 42,000 in Stafford Sub. and Unsub loans with Sallie Mae. I dont think they consolidate any more. Where should i go to consolidate; are there several companies that will do this? I would then like to apply for the IBR. Im assuming that I will do that with whom ever consolidated the loans. Im totally clueless. Thanks for any help!

I have like 5 or 6 loans. Some are from Wachovia, some are federal loans for my undergrad and some are federal loans for graduate school... Excuse my ignorance about loans, but I have no idea if I can consolidate private and federal, undergraduate and graduate loans into one? I have around $60,000 total in loans are there any suggestions? Thanks for your time!

I was curious if I could consolidate my federal loans with my wife's federal loans all under one loan? If someone could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

I will graduate from a 4 year college with a bachelors degree in nursing. I have unsubsidized and subsidized loans, as well as three private loans. How should I go about consolidating to save the most money. All together I have about $70,000 in student loans (I go to a private college) !!

I have 20-some-odd Federal Stafford loans that I would like to consolidate. All of my loans are currently in 6 or 12 month periods or forbearance. Will consolidating these loans negate the forbearance status? And if so, is it possible to apply for deferment/forbearance before making a first payment on my consolidated loan? I am currently unemployed and am unable to make even small payments on my loans.

I am thinking about consolidating my private loans and I wanted to ask a few questions:

1. Are the interest rates fixed or variable, and how are they calculated?

and

2. Are there any fees associated with Private Loan Consolidation including any start-up fees?

Are we beyond the economic hardships to the point where banks are now re-accepting applications for private student loan consolidation? CHASE says they are not, but will beging accepting in spring of 2010...it's now summer of 2010. If studentloanconsolidator.com does not finance the loans themselves, do they just act as a search tool to find banks that do offer private loan consolidation?
