Can I do this?

I'm considering taking out a private loan to assist my financial situation until I begin grad school (late August). When school begins, I will be receiving a Direct Stafford Loan. What I'm wondering is, can I use the money from my Direct Stafford Loan (the leftovers after the school has taken its share) to pay off my private loan?

Thanks for your help.

Consolidated Loan repayment schedule question

In the Q and A area it states "The first payment is due no more than 30 days from the date the consolidation loan is disbursed. Repayment schedule choices include:"

My gradplus loans and direct loans have a grace period of 6 months, and it ends in October. If I consolidate my loans before my grace period ends (for example, if I consolidate this month, it'll take about 60 days for the process to happen, ...

Touro University California-Not on list

Hi,

I am a student at Touro University California. I am trying to fill out the application to consolidate my loans, but it says I have to pick a school from the drop down list, but my school is not listed. It is not allowing me to proceed until I select a school. Anyone else have this problem or have a suggestion about how to proceed?

Thanks for any help!

Is loan consolidation a good option??

I just started a new job finally in my field at 50k. My student loans are about at 95,000 after my Masters.

My problem is that by adding up all the different monthly payments, I'm coming out to about 1,250 a month. The problem, I believe, is that I have so many vendors, and the greater problem is that they are mixed private and federal. I pay 527 a month to Great Lakes, and 152 ...

Processing time for refund request?

Hello,

This is my first post. I searched the forums for my problem but didn't see anything. Also, I'm not sure my question really belongs here but I'm not sure where else to place it - feel free to move, mods.

I consolidated my loans with the Department of Education (DoE) in late 2009 or early 2010. I dropped the ball on updating my current financial situation earlier this year, for various reasons. As a ...

Consolidation of Federal & Private Student Loans

I have a total of 12 student loans, 3 for undergrad, 9 for lawschool totaling around $160,000, including interest. (I attended a private school close to home) I graduated in May, but passed the Bar prior to graduation; however, my current job is not an "attorney" job. I am married with a young son. My husband and I both recently started new jobs so what our AGI would be had we worked these jobs this ...

Consolidate and getting an in-school deferment? Possible???

Here's my situation: I am currently in law school and I have about a year and half left (I'll be graduating January 2013). I have federal loans (MI-LOAN through Firrstmark Services) from my undergraduate that just went into repayment, and a few more will be heading into repayment in the near future. According to Firstmark, these loans have a forbearance period of 60 months from the date of the loan, regardless of whether or not ...

Parent PLUS loans for consolidation?

I am a parent of numerous previous, current and prospective college students- over the years I have often put tuition payments on a series of credit cards (it was all I had at the time) to offsett the shortage of funds left after Stfford loans were accounted for. I recently heard about the Parent PLUS loans- I understand how they work for current tuition, but could past tuition be put on one??

I know when you reconsolidate Federal student loans they can put you on an Income-based Repayment plan. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is any such thing available for Private Student loans? My student loans have been in default for 3+ yrs

Please help- I don't know where to begin!

I went to a trade school from 2005 to 2007 and upon graduating couldn't afford the monthly payments (federal and private loans). I applied for defferment and forebearance and when those ran out I made about 3 months of payments before my savings account was exhausted. My parents aren't able to help me, my credit is now terrible and I'm sure the debt total is in the ...
