I had several student loans that I consolidated a few years ago into a single loan with 8.5% interest. Is this something I can refinance to a better rate? I owe about $33k and have excellent credit.

You can most likely re-consolidate your loans if they are private. If they are federal, you must add another loan in order to consolidate a second time.

It is a Federal loan and I am not going to be getting any new loans. What about private loans, any idea on availability of them and terms?

If all of your loans are federal, then you will not be able to consolidate them with a private loan. However, if you have private loans as well, you can find lenders who will consolidate them at StudentLoanConsolidator.com
