Other ways to save...

Postby bensk123 » Thu Mar 12, 2009 8:26 am

Had a few recommendations for fellow college students trying to save those precious pennies...

1) Take advantage of your student status. There are some really great sites out there like campusx.com . Students can sign up for free and print out really good discounts to retail, dining, & entertainment establishments both locally and nationally.

2) Don't trust the campus bookstore. They're often much more expensive than online retailers even after shipping. Sites like Amazon usually offer significantly better prices while also showing a selection of second hand books.

Feel free to offer more tips and advice below...

1. Try to borrow books from library rather buying them
2. Use normal stationary items
3. buy things outside of campus from market as mostly on campus things are expensive
4. try to avoid alot on dinning like at cafetaria
5. try to make notes in class rather getting them copied from your friends

Overcome temptation- Spend wisely
Bring your lunch to school- you can save almost $1000 every semester
Be practical, aside from borrowing books from the library, try to borrow or buy books from your seniors.

It's really hard to fight temptations.. If you are too lazy then you won't be able to save much money.
This is a great reminder for all. Spend wisely. :)

Additions:
- Don't use credit card irresponsibly (pay on time to avoid interest)
- Diet -- do not get food delivery, do not eat at night or before bed (it's bad for your health)
- try to get coupons and grocery store savers card
- brew your own coffee
- do not eat at restaurants (it'll cost you more plus the tip)
- drink at college parties (it's free or much cheaper than going to bars)

Be wise. Don't buy anything using your credit card if you can't afford to pay for it. Use your credit cards to get reward points.

i think you can still get this students' idea, if only you are a student. taking this advantage is not talking about how old are you, but more in the students needs.

As I think all these steps are right but one only thing that I understand from all these is that reducing our expenditure can directly goes to save and I think you can read the books in library instead of buying them and avoid the dinning on campus area they just cost you high.

Keep a tab on expenses. Write every single one down every day/week/month, and the unnecessary expenses jump out of the sheet!
Then work on reducing/curbing them.

Buy only necessary things rather than indulging with a credit card
Buy products that are long lasting as well as cost friendly
Keep a tab on your spendings, this way you can know where you are putting in unwanted money.
Decide on a budget for every month
