need advice please

Postby rosshiloh » Sun Nov 01, 2009 8:04 pm

Hello I am currently graduating with 20,000 worth of student loan debt for grad school for master's degree, call me crazy but I am going to go back for another
master's degree next year, the cost of tution for the program I am to enroll in is approx 30,000+ per year, one university said by the time I get done plan on spending
around 80,000. Very scary mind you, because I will have to quit my part-time job and not have my income. What is the max that can be borrowed?
Can I use any of loans for living expenses? And what advice for the first set of loans, should I keep deferring the interest that is pililng up or can I roll into
the next set of loans? I would qualify for the IBR repayment or is it better to roll them over.
Thanks--- : :D

The maximum amount you can borrow for your entire graduate career is $138,500. If you need loans for living expenses you will need to look at a private student loan: http://www.privatestudentloans.com/.

You have a few options in regards to the loans you already have. You can either defer them while you are in school and then consolidate all of your federal loans when you graduate or if you want to start paying them off, and have the means to start paying them off you can apply for IBR.

I am aware that the max amount of Stafford Loans is $138,500 for graduate and professional degrees. But does the $138,500 include undergrad Stafford Loans? I would like to ensure I have enough financial aid available for a doctoral degree.
