Any reason for being denied for a Stafford??

Postby lisakrat » Tue Dec 22, 2009 11:52 am

I was just wondering if there are any reasons you would be denied for a Stafford Loan? What information does the Federal Government look at? Previous bankruptcy? IRS related tax debt? Credit info?
Thank you.

There are two kinds of Stafford loans. Subsidized Stafford loans are awarded based on financial need. While the borrower is in school the interest for these loans is subsidized by the government. It does not start to accrue until after graduation. However, pretty much anyone can qualify for an unsubsidized Stafford loan. They are not based on financial need or credit history.

Something to note: if you file for bankruptcy in the future, student loans are not dischargeable. Learn more about student loans and bankruptcy on my website.
