47J - "Money paid on your behalf"

I'm in the process of applying to grad school, and have been out of college and living "independently" for three years (I'm 25). However, I had some very significant medical expenses over the past year that my parents helped out with (about 10k or so contributed). After much research, I've determined that I do not have to mention their support on my tax return. The guidelines for mentioning this kind of support on the FAFSA, in comparison, are vague. Since this isn't a tax return requirement, I'm wondering if this needs to be put on the FAFSA, and, if so, what effect it will have on the outcome.

Thanks.

I could not say for sure exactly what kind of outcome this would have, however if you want to try to get an idea of what the results of your FAFSA will be you can check out http://www.FAFSA4caster.com.
