Death of a Student

Postby Cupper1700 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 5:03 pm

My son recently died, while in college. He had several loans, including unsub Stafford and sub Stafford loans. Where do I go to find out if my husband and I have to repay these loans?

First, I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

One of the grounds for loan forgiveness is the death of a borrower, so you should be able to get your Stafford loans (subsidized and unsubsidized) forgiven. For more information on this, contact the Department of Education at 800-433-3243.
