Deferment of Private Loans in Grad School

Postby jbroehl » Tue Nov 10, 2009 10:57 am

Dear all,

Thank you in advance for any advice/comments that you may supply.

I recently had a conversation with my loan provider about a deferment option of my loans. She told me that I was no longer able to defer my student loan payments even if I were to return to graduate for a doctorate program (which I'm in the process of doing). Could anyone shed some light if there are any ways to defer private student loan repayments since I am going back to school?

I've also entertained the idea of consolidating my loans. Would this affect my chances of deferment in graduate school?

Many thanks!

Anxiously,

Unfortunately with private student loans deferment is at the discretion of the lender. So depending on the terms and conditions you signed with them they are not obligated to let you defer your payments. However you could try to consolidate your loans with Wells Fargo and see what deferment options they have. They can be reached at 800.658.3567.
