Private Loan or Grad Loan?

Postby jaclynw » Wed Jan 20, 2010 1:36 pm

My daughter has a Baccalaureate degree and is going back to get a Masters in Physical Therapy, but needs some undergrad science courses to qualify for that masters program. She will be taking the courses at a community college and needs to get loans of some sort while taking the courses. She's been told she doesn't qualify for any fed funded loans and has to get private loans, but I'm trying to find out if she can even qualify for "regular" private loans while she's in this Post-Bacc status before she's in a full degree program.

If your daughter is not in a degree-seeking program she probably will not qualify for federal aid. She should speak to the school's financial aid office to see which private lenders they work with for her situation.

as your daughter is a graduate or professional degree student, consider the Graduate PLUS Loan before taking out a private student loan.
